Skein Lake (2.8mi)

This summer, I worked in a very rural part of Idaho, so I was always searching for cool little day hikes. One morning before work, I drove down south to Cascade, ID to find Skein Lake. I had heard it was a beautiful sight from a local and believe me it was! The road itself to get to the trailhead is definitely not meant for cars like mine- a Honda Civic- so be sure to drive a four wheel drive truck or jeep. Trust me, if I wasn’t so determined, I would have given up after the first eight inch rut in the road. The hike is beautiful, steep at times, but worth the incline. Wildflowers blossom on the sides of the trails, and small frogs linger at the lake. Along the way, you will see a portion of Raft Lake as well as on old abandoned log cabin. If you go early enough in the morning, the horseflies aren’t too bad and the lake has a perfect gleam to it.
