Snow-slide Lake was one awesome day hike which was incredibly rewarding. The best way to access the lake is up the Snowslide Lake trail. As you start to head up the trail you’ll notice the quality of the trail varies. This is due to being basically unmaintained and you will have to hike through some rugged terrain. It’s about 3.1 miles to the lake with a whopping 1300′ gain to the lake. Once you arrive you’ll be greeted with a cozy spot to break out those snacks and a well deserved quench of water as you take in the serene view Snow-slide Lake. There is a makeshift fire pit with nice log seating close to the lake.
For those of you looking to add an extra bit of leg day there are a few similar-quality trail (although the vegetation is much less) climbs to Snowslide Summit in 0.75 miles and about 700′ gain. This 0.75 miles and 500′ gain will showcase the beauty of Idaho at top of the peak. This last section involves some scrambling and athletic maneuvering, so be careful depending on your route. The Class 2 scramble to Snow-slide summit can be done from Snowslide Lake by crossing the inlet and hiking up the forested northwest ridge and south side. There are a handful of ways to achieve summiting but for the sake of your safety you can also get to the south side easily from Golden Lake. Getting to Golden presents its own problems though. If you are coming from Maki Lake you can also reach Snow-slide Summit from a trail that originates at the Lake Fork Creek campground.
