New Years at Bald Mountain

A quick getaway to reflect on a life-changing year & get out in the fresh winter air!

Bald Mountain lookout, 23:30, 12/31/23

A much needed adventure to the woods. The holiday season is, of course, a great time to reconnect with friends & family, but can really weigh down introverted souls- like mine. An escape to the woods with our little family was the perfect medicine. Here are some photos & thoughts as we enter a new year.

The drive in, FS road 377. Grateful for the Tacoma’s abilities!

We got stuck only one time, which frankly was unbelievable! Growing up going on adventures, both of us are all too familiar with frozen hands… digging the tires out….cussing… and asking ourselves wtf we were thinking- haha. Glad I found my match & grateful for a solid vehicle. 🙂

Phin clearing the road. Nothing like a little chainsaw fun!

It has been quite the year, and I’m not quite ready to share my full reflections, but here is something we have been doing (throughout the year, but more frequently as of late)….

Each day, we reflect on our “numbers”

1-10, emotional scale, 1-10 physical scale, 1-10 mental scale.

This is something I have been doing with friends & coworkers for years. Try it out. It is so helpful in understanding (very quickly) where somebody is at in that moment.

To add to that, weekly we reflect on:

  1. 3 things you did this week for others
  2. 3 things other people did for you this week
  3. 3 things you were proud of this week or things you learned
  4. 3 things that you struggled with this week
  5. 3 things you are looking forward to in the near future
  6. 3 things you are grateful for

each year we try to improve as people, and (hopefully) as a people (plural, of this planet).

To me, life is about
Growth;
Gratitude;
Intention;

The boys each sleep in a Vestibule of our tent
stiff, sore morning for ole piñon boy

How do we stay warm? Well we are well prepared & have:

-A Hilleberg tent, rated for Winter camping.

-A 25 degree double sleeping bag

-individual 15 degree bags

-lots of warm “puff” layers

-A white gas stove

The fam bam!
Goose- having a nice morning in the snow!

We have a simple life, and I love it. Stay tuned for my 2023 review, and I hope you enjoyed the photos! -Liv
